The General Election is the best opportunity to secure support from your candidates for shooting sports.
In advance of an election candidates are keen to listen to voters and BASC aims to put shooting at the heart of the election campaign. This site allows you to:

• Check where the candidates in your constituency stand on shooting.

• Email your candidates to establish their position and inform them of your views.

• Cast an informed vote.

For feedback on the site please email: election@basc.org.uk

General Election 2010

More seats could change hands at this election than at any since 1945. No one can predict the result but commentators and opinion polls have suggested an increased risk of a hung parliament or a minority administration. BASC will have its work cut out to build strong support for shooting in the next parliament. Identifying where candidates stand is the essential first step. Many candidates will only make a clear statement to voters in their constituency.

Please email your candidates and copy the response you receive to election@basc.org.uk

this is what i got three months back of my MP labour.
Hi Kenny

I would be happy to meet with members of your club, I have recently stood as guarantor for a local businessman who wanted a license for an air rifle, I take on board peoples concerns but I agree with you regarding Kenny McCaskills proposals, my dad was brought up in the countryside and in his later years worked on a big estate in the boarders, guns are a part of country life and are treated with caution and respect. I also think that many people have a satisfying hobby because of guns and this should not be taken away due to the actions of a minority.

Best Wishes

Depute Provost Falkirk Council

Reply from my SNP candidate which I've forwarded on ....

Dear Mr Robertson,

Thank you for your email. I am happy to confirm that while I do not myself shoot, I do support shooting sports which are conducted according to the current codes of practice.

Yours sincerely,

Another response , the Green party ...

Dear .Mr Robertson

I am supportive of some aspects of legal shooting sports but have reservations in one or more areas.

I don't particularly like the word 'sport' as it implies that it is a leisure activity.
As long as wildlife is allowed to live safely alongside game birds and animals - in particular birds of prey; and that if birds of prey are found poisoned or shot on shooting estates, a penalty must be applied to the owner of that estate, and not just the person who carried out the killing.
I feel that all airguns should be licenced. Although this is not so much a problem on shooting estates, if some people have to be regulated if they own airguns, all should.
I totally disagree with the shooting of wildfowl - wild geese, ducks, etc. There are incidents where piles of corpses are discovered where they have been shot for sport, and not for food. These birds have hard lives and need to land and feed in flocks in order to build up bodyweight for migration, and should be allowed to do this in peace.

However, I do feel that in providing cover and uncultivated areas for game, other wildlife can benefit. Legal shooting provides the means to keep shooting estates running and properly managed.

Yours sincerely

Sue Edwards

Steve ! for god sake don't get her started on targets ! what with metal fatigue a real killer , it must realy hurt those poor things falling backwards like that , not to mention tethering them to wooden posts giving them no chance of escape whatsoever .

With nine days to go until polling day we are asking BASC members to support our election campaign.

The opinion polls are suggesting a hung parliament. Whatever the outcome, it seems certain that there will be more new MPs than at any time since 1945. We will have our work cut out to build strong support for shooting in the next parliament. Identifying where candidates stand is the essential first step – and an election is the ideal opportunity.

BASC has launched a new service on the website to help shooters find where their candidates stand on shooting. Candidates are more likely to respond to an enquiry from a constituent than a question from BASC headquarters. We are therefore asking members to use our service to email their candidates through our election website.

This will help us target the right MPs, urge them to join the All-Party Group and offer them the opportunity to try shooting, meet shooters and see for themselves the substantial benefits that shooting provides for recreation, the environment and the rural economy.

Click hereto visit the election page on the BASC website where you can find all the information you need.

Protecting our sport in the new parliament will put additional demands on our resources.

BASC strives to keep the annual subscription as low as is consistent with the best representation for your sport. Throughout the year we provide other opportunities for you to give a little extra if you wish. Every pound raised in this way goes directly to benefit shooting.

If you have not yet had the chance, please visit our Election Appeal which you can find here - I would be very grateful for your support.

Yours sincerely

Christopher Graffius

Director of Communications
