SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE EXTENDED
During a recent consultation with BASC the SARPA committee were advised that the deadline for submissions to the Home Affairs Select Committee inquiry into firearms law has been extended after an overwhelming number of individuals tried to submit evidence which resulted in computers crashing.
While SARPA is working hard on the politics side it urges all Airgun shooters submit their views to the Home Affairs Select Committee, it's one of the few times you will be able to have your say directly to the Home Office.
The Committee Secretariat has explained that "people are welcome to submit evidence throughout the inquiry, which will go on into October. It is wise to get it in as early as you can, however." BASC advises that you submit your responses by the end of September or alternatively if you feel you will exceed this suggested time, it may well be advisable to speak to the Clerk of the Committee. Whilst no specific time frame has been given, the committee will be hearing oral evidence in October, the longer submissions are left, the chance for them being read before the oral evidence session will diminish.
Submissions must be “original work” and not merely repeat the wording of circulated information. Put your arguments in your own words. The points given below are intended as an aid to memory and are not intended to be copied. Your evidence should be submitted as soon as possible. They should be made by email to homeaffcom@parliament.uk using either Word or rich text. They need to contain your name, telephone number and address. You should also tell the Committee the type of shooting that you do, how long you have been shooting and why it is an important part of your life. Paragraphs should be numbered for ease of reference. If you don’t have email then send hard copy to Home Affairs Committee, House of Commons, 7, Millbank, London SW18 3JA.
A guide to submitting your information can be found here on the BASC web site.
