Hi there,

I've just put a new set of membership categories on the forum, and they are as follows..

GUEST is a visitor to the site.
VALIDATING registered, but not approved.
PROBATIONARY MEMBER until you make 10 posts.
MEMBER is standard membership.
SENIOR MEMBER is a member with over 500 posts.
TRADE MEMBER is a member of the AirGun Trade.
MODERATOR looks after housekeeping duties.
ADMIN is da boss, that's me by the way, webmaster!!

You'll see they are colour coded so it is easier to see who's online. It's not meant to be draconian, just to help run the forum. Everyone has the sames rights at the moment but i am considering only allowing members with 10 or more posts to add items for sale, they can reply and buy but need 10posts before selling. Thoughts??

i think thats a good idea as it stops scammers and the like.

I know that on some other forums you have to have so many posts before having access to the sales section. It is a bit worrying/suspicious when a first post is to sell something. There have been a few bad deals on Airgun BBS. It probably is not the same on here as many of us know each other, but it might be something to think about as the membership grows.

Yes, it seems sensible to expect member to post before they get a benefit from the forum in a For Sale capacity, after all it's a free advert. Surely it's not difficult to post 10 posts??

I've changed it, you need 10 posts to SELL, but you can still view the items and buy them...

Yes, been running forums for years. I used to do Fidonet Bulletin Boards before the web...

Agree Lenny mind you this is my magic 10th post!! I would suggest after a item is sold that the buyer and seller leave a form of feedback on the deal ie in the post before it is closed.

Yes, good deal, or we could just have a seperate good deal feedback forum etc... Other forums do this... thoughts??

Hi Lenny, I agree, think it's quite a good idea. This way, we should all be able to chat to each other. Suggestion from Bigray about putting comments on when something is sold is great. Keep up the good work!

I've been thinking about this, and I realise that not not everybody makes loads of posts, although it would be great if they did. Any forum is only as good as it's members contibutions. So... I've reduced the post count to 5 to move from probationer to full member. I'm sure that's not an excessive amount.

Also, I've added trade membership, they are an orange colour.

trade would that mean dealers stockists.

Yes, or anyone that trades in accesories, pellets, rifles, gun oil... whatever
