A mate at work said that he read that local authorities not the police are being lined up to issue licences. Not been able to find anything about this on google though
Essentially this is a tax. It will be me who has to pay to get the police check done and me who had to pay for the annual licence plus whatever costs there might be in relation to additional security.
There will be no benefit in terms of crime reduction from licensing air weapons. People who are responsible will continue to shoot safely and obey the law. Numpties will do the opposite because they don't care about others or obeying the law.
Depressing that our politicians can't see this.

Well i did tune in,the promised "detail" was not disclosed, typical BBC or typical whatever/whoever i wonder but one thing i dont wonder about is the fact that i believe the politicians involved in the decision making processes have in the main simply no idea whatsoever about what it is to be a responsible airgun shooter. This is very poor political practice as it follows that without the true facts to hand how can these elected people expect to come up with answers to "problems"they scarcely understand?Airguns, therefore consequently airgunners, have had some bad pressed sparked off by some really stupid people behaving in a way that no respectful society should be expected to tolerate but these idiots are a tiny minority and NO legislation is likely to alter the behaviour of these nutters.Current legislation is well able to deal with these rare incidences.
The touted/rumoured sledgehammer to crack a nut /"broadbrush" approach is clearly wrong and ill advised.
If the end game here is to ban all airguns then...I fail to agree, in the strongest terms, willie
Any politicians or their representatives reading this are cordially invited by myself to make contact with me and observe at any time what responsible airgun ownership and shooting actually are, anytime attall.
You wont see super accurate shooting but you will see it done safely and the current laws strictly adhered to.
