Sad passing away of a good mate to us all, Deon Smith

It is with deep regret and sorrow that I have to let you all know that a great friend and shooting buddy of mine, Deon Smith (thecitizensmith) passed away suddenly on Thursday 6th January 2011.
Deon was my closest mate through the shooting and I have spent so much time shooting and travelling around the UK with him and its a great loss to the whole community when something like this happens to one of our own.
I remember him telling me just how much he enjoyed meeting you all on our travels and how much he appreciated the welcome he got from you all.
I have been speaking to Karen (Deon's other half) and she is bearing up aswell as can be expected as are his 3 kids. She has asked me to let everyone know and I am sure all your thoughts will be with her and the children at this time.
I have assured her that we will do whatever we can to help them at any time and if anyone has any messages please pass them to me and I will make sure she will get them.

I have 3 kids myself, 18, 16 and 11 so i feel for the family who have to cope with the loss. I`m sure i can say with confidence that every member to a man on AGS will be thinking of them wither they ken Deon or not.
As for you scoch, to lose a dear friend and shooting companion is hard felt, and i can feel your pain in your post. Remember the good times you`ve had with Deon both as a friend and shooting buddy. He`ll be smiling down on you every time you pick up your rifle.
My deepest sympathy to yourself and to Karen and the wee ones.
Andy.

Only knew Deon for the past year but was lucky enough to shoot with him on at least 3 or 4 occasions, one of the nicest and most genuine guys I have shot with.
You will be missed by many Deon.
My condolences to his Family and Friends

He always spoke his mind no matter what and was honest, a virtue that not many men have.
He was great company and a fantastic shot for whom many a shooter looked up to, he will be sorely missed but never forgotten in a lot of friends eyes.
I'm privileged to have gotten to know Deon and I don't think a day out shooting will pass-by when he's not in my and many a shooters thoughts.
Rest and be at peace my friend :-(

I had the pleasure of Deon's company at the World Championships at Kelmarsh last year. It was the first time I had met Deon, but we immediately hit it off. You knew straight away, that he was one of the good guys.
We spent two happy days wandering around the various stalls, marvelling at the birds of prey and browsing the various wares for sale. Regardless of how hard we looked, we couldn't find a single pellet pouch or a shooting mat, for sale. We joked that we should open our own stall selling only those two items, before retiring on our profits and buying our yachts!
I'll miss his ready smile, and broad accent. He was a decent, modest and genuinely inspirational character – and the HFT scene in the UK is all the poorer for his loss.
My thoughts are with his loved ones...
Rest In Peace, D.

Stories are often the best way to reflect real human emotions and tell a 'real' story!
I will always cherish the night after Emley when a crowd of 'us' were gathered round the table for a glorious evening of chat and banter.
Deon really did stand out from the crowd. Definitely 'a one in a million' friend.
Rgds
