Lets say the scottish parliament are handed the powers to ammend gun laws. (will probably happen IMO)

What do you think the outcome will be i.e. total ban, licencing, stricter control , age limits or what ??

What will be the MOST LIKELEY outcome.

Personal opinion!!
They can't afford a total ban?
The compensation bill would run into 10's millions!
The police really don't want nor can they afford to add them to licences!
So tighter more meaningless restrictions will probably follow.

news just in... another person shot with BB gun. http://www.bbc.co.uk...w-west-12588065. this time some guy waiting for taxi has altercation with idiot, who then shot him in the eye. this will unfortunately add ammo to the anti gun lobby who will now jump up and down shouting "ban the gun".

Not good news for the Airgun community and law abiding airgun shooters in Scotland and UK

3 Airgun incidents in 1 week!!

There have been a few guys ive spoken to over last few days-nearly a week since the 1st 'shooting' in Glasgow just wondering-

Where does this leave us..whats going to happen next?

Is there any more info/statements been realised from SARPA or any other body regardng these well publisised media issues?

Lets make sure that we are all legal and safe...as the Police will be clampng down

SARPA is working with BASC etc on this one, while there hasn't been a huge outcry like the last issue it's still a major concern, early indications the North Ayrshire incident was soft air not Airguns (not confirmed) , we're in contact with the press but are very aware Bad press is worse than No press so treading carefully.

Many of Kenny's points are correct, ACPOS do not really want a ban nor further legislation, SARPA's response for written evidence to the Scottish executive also pointed out that any further legislation would only remove airguns from legitimate users and do nothing to address the perceived issues. We also pointed out that in the last 10 years Airgun issues have dropped by nearly 50%. The opinion so far there seems to a drive toward some sort of permit / licence scheme rather than a total ban.

The Scotland bill has now moved behind closed doors to be developed, SARPA as an organisation is working with other organisations to ensure Airgun can voice their opinions and concerns.

Even though there are no planned changes in legislation before the next elections, we encourage everyone to lobby their local electoral candidates on the run up to "E" day. BASC will be launching a tool to monitor the state of play in the next week or so, we'll post it as soon as its ready.

In discussions we're pushing Education and Enforcement of existing laws as the best way forward with no further legislation.

Best Regards
Graham
SARPA Chair

We will either find a way, or make one.

Your last paragraph, something that needs to more widely campaigned for.
Education & Full use of legislation that all ready exists!
Congratulations on the radio Graham, having participated in a few debates in the past it's very hard to restrain to the agenda and not be provoked or baited! All good practice though :-)

As we all know, the best solution is to hammer the idiots who abuse the law...

p.s. what will happen to millionare footballer ashley cole ? probably nothing.

The SNP have expressed their disappointment after Labour MPs voted with the Tories to block the transfer of control over the most dangerous air weapons to the Scottish Parliament.

An SNP amendment to the Scotland Bill which would have enabled the Scottish Parliament to take action over the most dangerous air weapons and tackle problems which exist in relation to armed crime and the irresponsible misuse of firearms was defeated by 392 votes to 8 as Labour joined the Liberal Democrats and the Tories.

Commenting, SNP Home Affairs spokesperson Pete Wishart MP said: “Labour have joined with the Tories and the Liberal Democrats in voting against a safer Scotland. “Although the number of incidents is declining, Scotland still has a problem with dangerous weapons – particularly airguns. The SNP’s amendment would have devolved control over these weapons to the Scottish Parliament so tailored solutions could be developed. It is profoundly disappointing that Labour seems to have joined the Tory Lib Dem coalition to vote it down. “Scottish Ministers have used their powers to tackle Scotland’s problem with knife crime – and it’s working with incidents down 30% in the past four years. With the transfer of responsibility proposed in this amendment, we could have done the same with air guns. “The measures contained in the Scotland Bill will require Scottish Ministers to ask the UK Parliament before acting. This is a delay which could cost lives.

“Without the improvements that the SNP is proposing, the Scotland Bill will fall short and fail Scotland

i'm sure i just heard on the news that no further action is to be taken against ashley cole. just goes to show that laws do not apply if you are rich and shameless. if it was an ordinary punter you would have the book thrown at you.

I can't ever see a total ban but can see it going to liscence, my SGC cost £50 and I reckon it would be a similar thing.

Also tighter age restrictions and stiffer punishments for the idiots who give us a bad name.

An airgun license would just be an ownership tax for law abiding shooters. Thugs who already flout the law wont bother about a license.
