Well, so far... touch wood, no money has gone. Paypal froze it pretty quickly... nothing out my bank account or credit card..... although would you believe I can't contact Virgin Money, credit card stolen phone number, no one there till Mon... can't be right, 24/7 meant to be...

Paypal account frozen, passwords changed, main machine formatted, rebuilding it now.

Paypal have been surprisingly good, so far!!

Most people on here will know more about computers that I do so I was wondering how you knew someone had access to your account if no money was taken?

Well, I woke up this morning after late shift last night... reached over to my iPhone on bedside table, which Iget my e-mail on, 11 new messages.... that's a bit strange... when I read them I freaked... "Thanks for your payment of $998" etc... etc..... I quickly ran to my desktop, and tried to log into Paypal, locked out, someone had changed my password. I phoned my bank, got them to freeze any paypal payments, luckily my bank gave me Paypal's Fraud phone number, phoned them, they changed my password. When I got in I noticed that during the night, nearly $2000 had been spent on my paypal....

Now, checked my credit card and bank, and appears the charge have been blocked. Paypal themselves had locked my paypal account about 0500hrs in the morning, they noticed dodgy transactions...

So, dodgy punter tried to fraud me, but seems paypal stopped them. However, can't get a hold of my credit card provider... Virgin Money.... so much for 24/7 stolen/lost numbers....

Computers? Eh??

Well, it WAS a backdoor trojan. Win32.Hupigon.dccn to be precise...

http://www.f-secure....2_hupigon.shtml

I was trying out some new software, I virus checked it and it was clear. Upon installing, my anti virus picked it up and stopped it... however it seems to still have been installed.

Aaaarghhhh.... just shows you, computer security is NOT to be taken lightly. I had been having problems with my hardware firewall, so it was switched off.... Mmmmm.... that problem is now resolved, and firewall is back on.

Just shows you, I started off in IT, well..... electronics and computing, and it proves anyone can be hit! So to sum up, here's a quick list. Of course I am always playing with computers, hardware and software so probably more at risk than someone who just does straight web and email!

Always use an UP TO DATE anti virus program.

Always use a firewall.

Be VERY careful if you get software that you can't trust 100%.

Never answer a Paypal/eBay query to type in your password or credit card number. (only check paypal through direct typing in of www.paypal.com)
